Cary P Frye Pottery

Learn more about Cary P Frye Pottery at my website!

Cary Frye creates wheel-thrown functional mid-fire stoneware pottery in her small studio and high-fire reduction stoneware pieces as a student at Portland Pottery.

The natural colors of the earth, ocean, and sky influence her work. Her latest creations are designed with animals, boats, waves, and landscapes inspired by the Maine coast.  Her unique carved pieces are made using the Sgraffito (in Italian "to scratch") technique.  The pot is thrown with white stoneware clay, then black liquid clay (slip) or colored underglazes are brushed on and carved back to unveil a white design.

Cary is a member of Maine Women in the Arts (MWA). Her one-of-a-kind pieces are sold at Portland Pottery Gallery, MWA Summer and Prelude shows, and local Maine craft fairs throughout the year. Each year in May she opens up her studio to participate in the Maine Pottery Tour.

Stop by to visit the studio, see works in progress, and shop at a pop-up gallery during the Maine Pottery Tour!
