Cary P Frye Pottery

Learn more about Cary P Frye Pottery at our website!

Cary Frye recently moved her studio from Fairfax, Virginia to her new home in Biddeford, Maine. She creates wheel-thrown functional mid-fire stoneware pottery in her small studio and high-fire reduction stoneware pieces as a student at Portland Pottery.

The natural colors of the earth, ocean, and sky influence her work. Her latest creations are designed with animals, boats, waves, and landscapes inspired by the Maine coast.  They are made using the Sgraffito (in Italian "to scratch") technique.  The pot is thrown with white stoneware clay, then black liquid clay (slip) or colored underglazes are brushed on and carved back to unveil a white design.

Her one-of-a-kind pieces are sold at local Maine craft fairs throughout the year. Stop by to visit the studio, see works in progress, and shop at a pop-up gallery during the Maine Pottery Tour!
